Important Dates
Filing deadline - 12 noon Thursday, June 1st
Primary Election (if needed) - Tuesday, August 1st
General Election - Tuesday, November 7th
*A Primary election is held if there are more than three times the number of candidates as there are positions up for election.
Filing Location
Candidates for all local elections file with the Montgomery County Clerk at the Courthouse in Independence, 217 E. Myrtle
City Council Filing Information
A person is eligible to file for a Council seat if they are a qualified elector of the City of Caney, meaning they are registered to vote and live in Caney.
Fees
The filing fee is $70. Montgomery County receives $20 and $50 is sent to the Governmental Ethics Commission.
In lieu of the $20 fee to Montgomery County, a petition may be filed.
Paperwork
Applicants are required to submit a Candidate's Declaration of Intention form when they file as well as a Statement of Substantial Interests For Local Office form.
Length of Terms
The Mayor and Council shall have two year terms.
